About Ajijic

Ajijic (pronounced “AH-hee-heek”) is a little town on the shores of Lake Chapala, the largest freshwater lake in Mexico. About 30 minutes south of the Guadalajara airport and surrounded by mountains, geographically Ajijic is about the same size as small Southwest Washington towns like Battle Ground or Camas, with a slightly smaller population.

What brought us to Ajijic for our year abroad? Bilingual primary schools for our kids, low cost of living, large expat community, convenient airport access with short, inexpensive flights to the U.S., and year-round pleasant weather were all contributing factors.

But fundamentally, we just felt at peace with this location, because we sensed God leading us here. For what purpose? We don’t know. But that’s part of the adventure!
